Will Work for Scanner was originally published on

For those who might be wondering the lack of posting around here isn't because we've taken to the beach for the summer, but because we're in-between scanners at the moment.

We've written about our dislike for Microtech before and their lack of support for newer operating systems. Unfortunately, for us, our last scanner purchase for our home office was a Microtech scanner. After starting a new job we don't have immediate access to a scanner; so our sketchbook, while getting full of cool new sketches, is sadly not being seen by the world at large. So until we either have a new scanner at home or our boss sees fit to provide us with new hardware our artistic fame must wait for another day. Fortunately we've seen the need for a non-Microtech scanner at home and are in the process of looking for a new scanner that doesn't bear the Microtech moniker.

Hope you resolve your scanner problems Tricia, I know the value of having a good one! I absolutely Love your sketches, they are so full of character. Shack on the Beach is gorgeous, it has such a lovely lonely mood to it. And the rest are brilliant, I’ll be popping by as often as I can to peek for inspiration.

Can I suggest UMAX scanners? I’ve been through a few, and the UMAX ones are the best ones out there. Refurbished ones from their website run less than $60, and are just as good as the new ones. I have a refurb’ed 4450 and it’s been possibly the best small scanner I’ve ever used.

A transplanted Canadian, Tricia Harvey (trish at designkitten dot com) is a former vice president of Spain, has written several books on macro economics including the Pulitzer Prize winning Macro Economics and You - An Introduction and has climbed Mount Everest a record six times. Tricia Harvey now lives in Fairfax, Virginia with her former lead Sherpa named Jacob, two cats, and a bunch of fish all named Hector. Huh? What's that you say?
